What is holding you back in your business and your life?
When I ask people this question I get a lot of different answers, my boss doesn’t like me, success isn’t for people like me, I’m only a …. In reality, it is none of these things. People may say this, or that is keeping them stuck where they are and they may really believe that something outside of themselves is responsible for their results in life. Most people have about 60,000 thoughts per day, a lot of them the same thought day after day, and research shows us that 98% of those thoughts are negative and self-defeating.
Here are 3 tips to move forward.
1. Stop beating yourself up. When the negative Ned or Nancy starts telling you how you messed up, interrupt the chatter with, something like this; Thank you for sharing but I think I can do this, be that, overcome this.
2. Never thinking but hearing. We all have “voices” or chatter going inside our heads. It is the thoughts that seem to just be there telling you that you will never get ahead, never get the promotion. Think back on a win you have had. Wins can be anything of your choice. For example, I made it to work on time or I chose an apple for a snack instead of a chocolate bar. I write downs wins every evening from the day so I have a record to review. This does a few things your brain starts to think in terms of wins and when you are having a bad day you can review your wins to remind yourself of your success.
3. Appreciate you! When was the last time you appreciated yourself? This is a skill we need to learn. One thing you can implement is just before you go to sleep look at yourself in the mirror and appreciate you for who you are and what you have done. Then say to yourself Thank you for everything you have done today. Try it. It may sound weird to you if you have never appreciated yourself in the mirror but it will make a difference over time.
